Antioxidants play a vital role in the well-being and health of our bodies. They are either provided by our diet or produced naturally by our cells. We have all heard of antioxidants, but what are they really and why are they so important, especially today?

The role of antioxidants
Naturally present in several foods, antioxidants are molecules that protect our cells against the harmful effects of free radicals . Their main function is to neutralize these free radicals, especially in cases of excess in the body.

Free radicals are produced by our bodies for a variety of reasons, some of which are beyond our control:

  • Exposure to UV rays from the sun
  • Air pollution and food toxins
  • Alcohol and tobacco , which are factors that we can, however, limit

Excess free radicals in the body lead to oxidative stress , accelerating cellular aging and increasing the risk of various diseases.

Where to find antioxidants?
